SYNOPSIS

Generates a new data masking configuration file to be used with Invoke-DbaDbDataMasking

New-DbaDbMaskingConfig [[-SqlInstance] <Sqlcollaborative.Dbatools.Parameter.DbaInstanceParameter[]>]

[[-SqlCredential] <Pscredential>] [[-Database] <System.String[]>] [[-Table] <System.String[]>] [[-Column]

<System.String[]>] [-Path] <String> [[-Locale] <String>] [[-CharacterString] <String>] [[-SampleCount] <Int>]

DESCRIPTION

Generates a new data masking configuration file. This file is important to apply any data masking to the data in a

database.



Note that the following column and data types are not currently supported:



Identity



ForeignKey



Computed



Hierarchyid



Geography



Geometry



Xml

-CharacterString [<String>]

The characters to use in string data. 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789' by

default

-EnableException [<Switch>]

By default, when something goes wrong we try to catch it, interpret it and give you a friendly warning message.

This avoids overwhelming you with "sea of red" exceptions, but is inconvenient because it basically disables

advanced scripting.

Using this switch turns this "nice by default" feature off and enables you to catch exceptions with your own

try/catch.
